To get a driving license in British Columbia (BC), you must first complete a graduated licensing program. This program consists of three stages:
Learner’s license (Class 7L): To get a learner’s license, you must be at least 16 years old and pass a written test on the rules of the road and road signs. With a learner’s license, you can only drive with a supervisor who has a valid BC driver’s license and at least four years of driving experience.
Novice license(Class 7N): To get a novice license, you must be at least 16 and a half years old, have held a learner’s license for at least 12 months, and pass a road test. With a novice license, you can only drive with a supervisor who has a valid BC driver’s license and at least four years of driving experience.
Full license (Class 5): To get a full license, you must be at least 18 years old, have held a novice license for at least two years, and pass a road test. With a full license, you can drive without supervision.
To apply for a learner’s license, you will need to visit a driver licensing office and provide proof of your identity, legal presence in Canada, and BC residence. You will also need to pass a vision test and pay a fee. For the road tests, you will need to provide a vehicle that is in good working condition and meets the requirements of the test.
If you have an international licence and ICBC accepts your 2 years of experience from it, you can get a Class 5L after passing your knowledge test. You can then take a Class 5 road test to get a full licence.
The process for getting a driving license in BC involves completing a graduated licensing program and passing written and road tests. It is important to follow the steps of the program and to practice safe driving to ensure that you are ready to take on the responsibility of driving.
